There are many varieties of men’s cuts out there for 2019. While there are many different types and variations of haircuts, we’ll go over a few of the top favorites of those tried and true cuts.
Taper & Fade. A fade haircut, also know as a taper, is one of the most popular ways to cut men’s hair on the sides and back. The fade involves a close trim with hair clippers at the bottom of the head, gradually blending into the hair on top. The kind of taper fade depends on the length of fade you’d like – low, mid, high, or skin fade.
Undercut. This is another hairstyle that is trendy and involves short sides. Opposite of the fade, the undercut is all one length and cut very high on the head with no fading. This can be a very controlled look or take on a messy, relaxed look with minimal effort.
Quiff. Although this originated in the 1950’s, there’s been a modern twist added to make this a popular hairstyle today. The quiff has longer hair at the front of the head, which is styled into a classic voluminous look by brushing the hair in a forward and up manner, and applying product. It can be dressed up for formal events or the office, or left unstyled to create a sexy, messy look. This cut looks best with a fade or undercut on the side to accentuate the length on top.
Comb over. The term “comb over” may bring up visions of your Dad losing his hair and combing over that length on top to cover the thinning spots. This is that cut. A modern comb over is paired with faded hair on the sides, with a comb over the fade. This is a very versatile and stylish look.
Buzz cut. Need a practical and easy look? The buzz cut is a very low-maintenance haircut without shaving your head completely. Although you have to get regular trims, this is virtually a hairstyle that can go from bed to the office with literally no effort.
Crew cut. If you want a classic and down-to-earth hairstyle, you can’t go wrong with the crew cut. It’s defined by its faded short back and sides, while the hair on top is left a little longer. You can decide if you want a little more length or a tight, military style that never goes out of fashion.
If you’re planning on a new look, here’s some great tips for telling your stylist at HQ Salon & Spa the type of look you want.
Have a hairstyle in mind before you come in.
Decide between a fade or undercut on the sides.
If you choose a fade, know how low or high and which clipper size you prefer.
If you plan on having length on top, tell your stylist in advance. They can make recommendations on just how long you should go based on hair texture and face shape.
Choose how you’d like your neckline shaped. This seems like a small detail but it really can tie the whole style together.
